Normandy Isles Historic District has some excellent examples of Mediterranean Revival, Classical Revival, Masonry Vernacular, Minimal Traditional, Art Deco and Moderne. Most of the buildings were part of the postwar modern style better known as “Miami Modern” or “MiMo”. 2005 Calais Drive is a set of 12 Townhouses located over Calais Drive on the west side of the island adjacent to a canal that’s gives access to Biscayne Bay. The units are distributed in two blocks, one facing South over to Calais Street, while the other 6 units are organized around the building facing North towards the canal. On the Calais Drive front, a 4-story high block rises, arranging its façade around a void, the entrance to the northern block. Vertical green walls and cutouts in the volume, reveal the presence of uncovered areas, it manifests in a horizontal and distinctly modern manner. It is accompanied by lush landscaping that enables its integration into the adjacent context.
